Omar Bradley on Omaha Beach, Normandy; June 1969.
I find this image to be extremely powerful. Bradley had a lot to think about. While his landings went well, and his break out was stupendous, he completely dropped the ball and missed encircling several hundred thousand Germans by just 8 kilometres. (The Falaise Gap) He also likely had serious psychological issues following his service, he had a nervous break down at the battle of the bulge. And by 1969 he’d outlived most of his compatriots.
